LA is a great place for ocean kayaking and Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro is one of the best. The cove is an easy tranquil spot to launch from and the journey takes you out to the point where you get an excellent view of the shoreline cliffs from San Pedro to Palos Verdes and Catalina.  The bay is an easier paddle and you can head out to the pier and explore the harbor there.
